The goal of the Extended Scope Practitioner (ESP) Clinics is to champion a better model of care in which orthopaedic surgeons supervise inter-professional allied health care teams consisting of Extended Scope Physiotherapists/Advanced Clinician Practitioners and provide patients with musculoskeletal (MSK) joint and spine pain with assessment, education, and evidence-based treatment plans emphasizing personalized self-management strategies.
Our ESP Clinics have been developed and are supervised by subspecialty trained orthopaedic surgeons. Referred patients will be provided with more streamlined access to specialists and diagnostic services when indicated.
ESP Clinics – Hip & Knee, Shoulder & Elbow, Foot & Ankle and Back & Neck are available at Toronto Western Hospital, University Health Network.
Additional ESP Clinics for Foot & Ankle, Sports Medicine, and Hand & Wrist conditions will be offered as we expand the scope and training of our ESPs.
Low back pain patients may also be referred to the Inter-Professional Spine Assessment and Education Clinic (ISAEC).
Please ask your Primary Care Provider about being referred to the ESP Clinic nearest you.
Please complete the Patient Reported Outcomes before your ESP Clinic appointment.
